جدیت در هدفمندی به معنای تلاش مداوم، تمرکز بر هدف، و احساس نزدیکی مداوم به آن هدف است که نتیجهگیری مثبت، احساس خوشبختی، و رضایت از زندگی را به ارمغان میآورد. اراده بالا در پیدا کردن روش مناسب برای دستیابی به هدف، پشتکار فراوان همراه با هوش بالا و برجستگی اجتماعی، و قبول و پذیرش اشتباهات و تلاش برای رسیدن به نتایج مطلوب نیز اهمیت دارد.
بررسیهای تحلیلی نشان میدهد که بیشترین منبع پیشرفت تحصیلی دانشآموزان با استعداد به میزان جدیت در تعقیب هدفمندی آنها بستگی دارد. پنج عامل فردی میتواند باعث پیشرفت تحصیلی در دانشآموزان شود:
